Meet Phillip Ensler
Attorney Phillip Ensler was elected in November 2022 to represent District 74 in the Alabama House of Representatives. He also serves as the Executive Director of the Jewish Federation of Central Alabama. He previously worked as the Senior Policy Advisor at the City of Montgomery. Prior to that, he was Policy Counsel at Alabama Appleseed Center for Law and Justice. As an undergraduate student at George Washington University in D.C., Phillip served in the Obama Administration. After that, he was a Teach for America corps member where he taught social studies at the former Lee High School in Montgomery. While teaching in 2012 he started a mentorship program to help local public school students achieve their college and career goals. He continues to lead the program each year by bringing students to D.C. and New York City to expose them to different opportunities and meet with professional leaders. He is a 2017 graduate of Cardozo School of Law and a member of the Alabama Bar.
I am working hard everyday to help make our district and state an even better place for all. While I cannot fix every issue in the community, I can collaborate with you and commit to giving you my all. I will find common ground where it exists and fight for what is right.
Education
As a former educator in Montgomery Public Schools, I know firsthand the challenges our schools face. Our students and educators deserve a state representative who will fight for equitable resources, seek innovative solutions, and support our public schools.
Community Health
Every resident in our state deserves access to quality, affordable health care and mental health services. I will continue to work with partners to ensure and expand access to such services for all.
Enhancing Community Safety
All residents deserve to live in safe neighborhoods, free of gun violence. While government cannot stop every violent incident, there are reasonable steps that we can take to save lives and make our communities safer for all. I will continue working with law enforcement, grassroots groups, neighborhood associations and partners across government to advocate for such policies. Additionally, we must implement more rehabilitation, diversion and reentry programs that help prevent recidivism and improve public safety.
Economic Mobility
We must support policies that level the playing field and expand access to financial opportunities that truly empower people—especially those traditionally left behind—to grow economically.
